Provenance

R28 was originally commissioned by Mary English in the early 1970s. The English’s enjoyed the boat for many years around Cork harbour and West Cork and it was subsequently sold to Anthony O’Leary in the mid 1980s. The O’Leary family had Dick Gibson restore the boat in the early 2000s and the extended family continue to enjoy the boat today in Crosshaven and Baltimore, West Cork. Anthony with crew Sally O’Leary sailed the boat in convoy with the Rankin fleet to Cobh and Crosshaven when Ida Rankin (sister of Eric and David Rankin) visited from the UK in 2018. More recently the boat had a starring role in an national AIB advert on television screens regarding climate sustainability filmed in Lough Hyne, West Cork.
