Owner
Peter McQuade
Provenance
This is a standard Dave Rankin boat with offset daggerboard. The transom is red oak and the thwarts are pine.
Peter advised -
“I inherited the Rankin from my grandfather who was from Cork city but lived in Killarney for over 50 years, where he used the Rankin for sailing on the lakes and on Kenmare Bay. It spent much of the last ten years under some bushes, but fortunately very carefully wrapped in tarps, near Caherciveen in west Kerry. We are gradually getting it back into commission, albeit storage conditions are still not ideal.”
“Last year we got a new trailer and an outboard, and managed to get her out on the water a number of times here in Dublin. This year we ordered sails from NorthSails but they took longer to arrive than anticipated. We still have some way to go to (Gunter) rig her, as the original mast was rotten. We have a replacement mast and yard but we are missing some fittings.”
2025 saw her in the workshop at Whitepoint Drive for some TLC; including making good on water damage to the transom and planking, water damage to the back end of the keel, removing the previous addition to the bottom of the keel, adding a new keel band and repairing the aft seat.
