Owner

Andrew Crosbie and family

Provenance

An early punt bought new by Andrew’s grandfather in the 60’s. Over the years she has plied the waters of the Owenabue river as yacht tender, runabout and water taxi to and from social gatherings on the opposite bank. She suffered the ravages of time to such an extent she was no longer seaworthy in recent years. So in 2025/26 Owen O’Connell carried out major works to restore and convert her, which included new gunnels, both sheer strakes, new breast hook, outer apron and keel. Planks were reglued / replaced where previous repairs were carried out using “Dutchmen” and clenched nails. Other repairs included refixing the transom and quarter knees and inserting a spline to fill a fatal looking gap in the transom. New sails, spars and foils have been provided in readiness for the 2026 season.

Her main construction / design details are -

  • Mainly as R4.
  • The plank hood ends are secured with brass screws not grip fast nails
  • As a punt she had solid thwart knees made from plywood, now changed to the classic Rankin laminated bent knees.
  • As a punt she had hourglass supports under the side seats, now converted to down stand beams.
